I am on the board of First Place Schools and yesterday I was happy to tour my friend India Arie for a visit.
First Place is a local social services agency devoted to educating and nurturing children whose families struggle with the risk or reality of homelessness. They specialize in educating children who have experienced trauma and support families in achieving long-term stability.
The school provides bus transportation, clothing, hot meals and education in a therapeutic and supportive environment. While the kids are in school, First Place helps parents work toward their own goals, like finding stable employment and housing. Children shouldn’t be living on the streets and in motels with their parents. They deserve a home. By addressing the needs of the entire family, First Place gives a life-changing hand up.
